On July 31, 2016, our department successfully held the Peking University International Workshop on Climate and Environmental Change. It is well-known that climate and environmental change is one of the most difficult challenges faced by China and the world. However, mitigation of this problem is limited by our understanding and modeling of the complex physical and chemical processes involved. To boost research progress in the areas of climate and environmental change, this international workshop invited dozens of scientists in China and abroad to discuss research challenges and future prospects in an interdisciplinary scene. Topics of discussion included earth and planetary climate, climate change, atmospheric environmental change, and attribution and mitigation. The workshop was kindly supported by many alumni and colleagues. Of the 15 invited speakers, 14 were from outside the department and 11 were from overseas. The workshop welcomed attendees including 21 from outside Peking University. It provided a nice environment for interdisciplinary discussion and exchange, with supports from enlightening talks and Q&A.
